Fed up with having to feed your pet Tortoise Junk?

Did you know that almost all commercial Tortoise foods are made from food waste such as almond nut shells or soya husk? Did you know that many of these prepared diets that smell so strongly of fruits or flowers do so because of potent artificial attractants?

Did you know that many of these foods are totally unnatural when compared with the wild diets of these incredible animals? In many cases they are little more than a baked, extruded chemical mass of artificial colours, flavours, scents, and preservatives? A chemical soup soaked into waste fibres and with very little actual ‘food’.

EarthPro-Optimised52 is a brand new, vet checked, all-natural way of feeding tortoises, developed to replicate wild feeding by only using natural ingredients. We use no non-natural fillers such as seed husks, nut shells, Maize, soya and flours which are all too common in prepared Tortoise diets.

Tortoises have developed over vast time to be opportunistic feeders that are highly herbivorous. They are an exploring species that will graze as opportunity arises within seasonality. The wild diet of the Mediterranean species consists mainly of leafy vegetation, grasses, roots, tubers, and seasonal flowers. Fruits are taken but rarely and as a seasonal supplier.

A wild diet of this type is very high in fibre, low in protein, sodium and fats. Natural geophagy is also a vital supplier of essential minerals and vitamins, mostly from the B group.

If we wish to see our companion Tortoises live a long and fruitful life it is essential that we feed them correctly. Fillers such a nut shells, husks and middling’s offer no nutritional value of note and are used as a very cheap source of Fibre.

Fibre is essential within Tortoise diets as this not only provides direct nutrition, but it also works as a prebiotic in the digestive system. This provides a home from which the beneficial live bacterial cultures can grow and live and aid with ongoing digestion, assimilation and use. Having a fully functioning probiotic system living within the gut is also essential for the health and function of the immune system. Optimised52 uses no by-product or cheap fillers. The Fibre content is high and totally whole plant-derived. We also add a natural paraprobiotic to Optimised52 to boost beneficial cultures naturally within the digestive system. EarthPro-Optimsed52 is high in fibre at 25.7%, low in protein at just 10% and low in fats and sodium.

Optimised52 contains at least 52 species of EU grown grasses and herbs as the base mix.

This is a seasonal grow and plant species found in our mix through the seasons can actually reach 60 grasses and herbs per mix. To this base mix of whole plant nutrition, we add a further 10 species of plant matter which include leaves from strawberry, blackberry and raspberry plants. Plantain, nettle, dandelions, marigolds and roses are also added into the mix. In this way we fill the nutritional requirements of Mediterranean species by using a barrage of natural ingredients, many of which are found in the wild habitats of these incredible species.

To add in further nutritional value we have added finely milled Bee Pollen which is vitamin, mineral and amino acid positive, a real superfood. We have also added our full-spectrum Carotenoid complex and our full-spectrum mineral and vitamin complex ‘ReVitaliseD3’. This will provide all of the minerals available in the wild diet and in natural balance, with low levels of A, D3 and E suitable for modern reptile care. Optimised52 is high in Calcium, low in phosphorus and with added Magnesium for optimal mineral storage and wellbeing. We have also included our best selling flower based topper within every pack, EarthPro-FlowerBoost. EarthPro-FlowerBoost will add even more variety to the mix and plenty of highly visible colour. Just grab a pinch from the pack and add this on top of your hydrated tile. You can also buy FlowerBoost separately and add in more if you so wish. FlowerBoost is an all-natural mix of whole flowers and petals.

A whole new way of feeding. EarthPro-Optimised52 arrives as a pressed ‘tile’. Each tile has an average weight of approximately 12.5g* (being an all-natural product weights can vary within batch and seasonality). These tiles contain the whole mix stated as ingredients that have been compressed. Tiles can be fed dry to those animals that enjoy dry plant material and with very large animals as enrichment. Optimsed52 has however been designed to be rehydrated into a nutritious mulch. Each tile should have 12 teaspoons of fresh cold water added. This will increase food and water weight as the plants rehydrate and re-green to near 40g of food, per tile fed. Simply add in the water to the tile in a cup or feeding bowl and wait 5-10 minutes. The tile will start to swell and become quite green. When fully hydrated simply stir the mix and feed. You may add more or less water as you wish, depending on the preferences of your pet. Optimised52 both correctly feeds and hydrates your animal. As always, we must provide fresh clean water for our pets to drink from at all times. We suggest that 1-2 tiles should be fed per day per for up to each 400g of body weight. A grown 1kg active animal could therefore be fed 2-3 tiles per day. This is based on 1-3% of total bodyweight per Kg as dry food. Partial tiles can be fed for young animals, tiles can be cut into quarters with 3 tsp of water added per quarter tile.

As with other highly sentient species Tortoises may require a transition period from the existing food to Optimised52. Those that have been fed for long periods on highly artificially scented pellets may require a few attempts before switching over fully to Optimised52. In our testing almost all animals would eat Optimised52 fully from either the first or second feed. A small number of animals took up to 6 feeds but will have eaten some of the mix as they test it out during this time. Optimised52 does not smell strongly of an artificial attractant, it has a natural sweet grass smell. This may be a new experience for some animals. The existing diet can be added into Optimised52 and decreased through the transition.

Feed as required! You may choose to feed a whole tile to a younger animal and let it graze during the day, or you may choose to break each tile further and rehydrate accordingly. Each animal will have its own preferences and as caring keepers we tend to keep them towards these preferences. As Optimised52 has no added artificial preservatives you should discard any uneaten rehydrated food daily.
